Spartan Volleyball Hits the Road to Elgin

September 12, 2022

On September 8th, Boyd County was on the road to visit Elgin Public / Pope John.  The Wolfpack, a tough NVC opponent, challenged the Lady Spartans all night.

In the C team contest, girls continue to get necessary court time to improve on skills and confidence.  After losing a tough first set 13-25, Boyd County kept it closer in set two, and made a valiant comeback forcing a time out at 24-25 after forcing extra points.  A serving run by Katelyn Faus led the charge, while she had 7 service points in a row including 5 aces.  The Lady Spartans lost the second set 25-27.

In JV action, Boyd County again started off slow.  Plagued by service errors and poor passing, Lady Spartans lost set one 8-25.  In set two, BC was able to handle the serves better and set up the offense to keep the set close.  The Lady Spartans weren't able to close the gap during the contest, and lost 22-25.

To close out the night, Varsity Lady Spartans were up for a best 3 out of 5 series.  Boyd County fell behind early and never regained composure with no answer for the EPPJ attack.  As block touches improved later in the night, the Spartans were able to muster up some offense, but played out of system often.  The well rounded Wolfpack would take all 3 sets, 13-25, 17-25, 13-25.   On the night, Paige Drueke had the lone ace with her 4 service points.  Lanie Lechtenberg added 5 points along with her 9 digs.  Amelia Hoffman led with 6 kills and added 8 digs.  Defensively, Drueke led digging with 14 along with her 3 kills, and Brynn Almgren chipped in 10 digs.  Blocking was led by Addison Birmeier and Mazee Johnson with 4 each.
