Lady Spartans Travel to Plainview for Round Robin

August 31, 2022

The Lady Spartans traveled to Plainview on Saturday August 27th to open the 2022 season in a 4 team round robin.  Match one saw Boyd County taking on Stuart.  BC struggled in serve receive which resulted in very little offense for the match.  BC works to find a grove with a youthful Spartan team.  Lady Spartans lost 10-25, 16-25.  Amelia Hoffman had 2 kills with Paige Drueke and Mazee Johnson adding 1 each.  Blocking was led by Leah Jockens 4 and Brynn Almgren 3.  Lanie Lechtenberg and Drueke (1 ace) each had 3 service points.  Almgren recorded 5 set assists.  Hoffman notched 8 digs while Johnson had 7.

The second match of the day saw a match up with Plainview.  The Spartans showed improvement all over the court and made a late charge in set one.  Despite some hustling efforts, they dropped both sets, 22-25 and 15-25.  Defense and coverage improved, but too many hitting errors plagued the Spartans.  Defensively Drueke and Hoffman dug up 13 and 10 balls, with Johnson and Almgren each knocking down 2 blocks each.  Elizabeth Bernt had 8 set assists with Almgren adding 6.  Hoffman and Drueke led the way attacking with 6 and 4 kills.   Hoffman had 6 service points (1 ace), Almgren (1 ace) and Bernt added 4 service points each.

Match 3 on the day for the Lady Spartans paired them against C1 Columbus Scotus.  Boyd County continued to show improvement on the day and really competed well, taking a lead during both sets.  In the end, the Shamrocks would prevail and win in two, 20-25, 20-25.  Drueke was all over on defense and pulled up 15 digs with Almgren adding 10.  Johnson, Almgren, Jockens and Sabrina Ziebro each had 1 block.  Hoffman had 5 kills, Drueke 4 and Jockens added 3.  Bernt had 7 set assists.   Overall, the Lady Spartans continued to improve all day and grow as a team unit. 

In JV action, Boyd County lost to Plainview 18-25, 21-25 and Columbus Scotus 10-25, 9-25.
