JH Spartans Fall to Summerland in First Game of the Season

The Boyd County Spartans Junior High Football team had their first game of the season on Tuesday, September 5th at Summerland. The Spartans got off to a quick start as seventh grader Jake Ohri took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. The 2pt conversion was successful to make it 8-0. The Bobcats of Summerland would put together a drive and tie things up at 8. The Spartans came back with a long TD run by eighth grader Ben Schmitz to make it 14-8. 2pt no good. Bobcats running backs had a strong performance throughout the game. Summerland would tie it up 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. Ben Schmitz took the next kick return back for a TD to make it 20-14 Spartans. The Bobcats continued to respond and would take the lead 30-20 into the half. The second half was in the Bobcats hands and they didn’t surrender the lead eventually making it 44-20. Ben Schmitz had one more long run for a TD to make it 44-28. The 2pt conversion was successful. Final score Summerland 44, Boyd County 28. The Spartans (0-1) will be playing at Verdigre against the Niobrara-Verdigre Cougars on Monday, September 11th.
