April 20, 2021
Boyd County begins the year with 12 new golfers. We have 3 seniors this year, Racheal Matthews, Trevor Brooks, and Johnny Miranda. Juniors are Victor Polack, Samatha Heiser, and Emmi Flesher. Sophmores are Timothy Atkinson, Leah Jockens, Kyra Gonzales, Zander Kluckman, and Kaleb Kaczor. Derris Hansen is the lone Freshman on the team. It has been a busy year with a lot of learning going on. The team started the season on a cold evening at West Holt Triangular with West Holt and Stuart.Timothy Atkinson placed 5th with a 52. It was the first meet for all of the BC golfers. The first tournament for the Spartans was the Summerland Meet on April 14th. Timothy led the team with a tie for 7th with a 49-46/95, Derris Hansen 52-55/107, Johnny Miranda 51-64/115, Zander Kluckman 59-58/ 117, and Leah Jockens 64-63/127. Boyd County finished with a 434 team total which placed them 6th in a field of 14 teams. It was the first time most of the BC golfers had ever played 18 holes and it was a very cold windy day. Every golfer improved over the score they had at West Holt. The team was to play on Monday April 19th at O’Neill for a dual but do to snow and cold temperatures it was postponed until April 26th. We are hoping for some nice weather that would make the season a lot more enjoyable.
Boyd County started a Jr High program this year with 11 golfers. There are 5 eighth graders and 6 seventh graders. We are playing Summerland and North Central. We had our first triangular at Summerland on April 9th. Boyd County was lead by Cash Sinclair who was 5th at Summerland with a 51. Madelyn Reiser 53, River Hansen and Ben Tiefenthaler 55’s. Evan Brewer, Koy Gonzales, Evan Hammon, Lily Kemnitz, Alex Lechtenberg and Amanda Davis also participated in the meet. Boyd County's team score was 214. Boyd County will play again April 23 at Bassett and at the Butte Golf Course on April 29th. It has been a cold year but he kids are getting better and enjoying the new Jr High sport.
