Pain Passes, Beauty Remains
February 12, 2024
Starting in August, the Boyd County Student Senate members Sabrina Ziebro, Aurora Ziebro, and Katelyn Fletcher set out on a project to prevent suicide. The project, titled Pain Passes Beauty Remains, seeks to teach kids how to help their friends who may be struggling. As part of the project the 7th through 12th grade students of each school in the Niobrara Valley Conference will be receiving “care bags.”
Each “care bag” contains a stress ball and locker magnet with the 988 suicide hotline number, along with a brochure on how to approach the topic with a friend who may be considering suicide. The brochure touches on some signs to look for, how to start a conversation about the subject, what to do during the conversation, and how to proceed after the conversation. The brochure also lists two sources, Seize the Awkward and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, that they can access with further information on the topic.
