JH Volleyball News
The Junior High volleyball team has been very busy, they played Stuart at Butte on Monday Sept. 17th. The “A” team squeaked out a win with 14-25, 25-17 and 26-24. Natasha Zeisler was the leading scorer with 9 points followed closely by Amelia Hoffman with 8 and Paige Drueke with 7 points. The 7th grade, though improving each game, fell to Stuart 27-29 and 23-25.Elizabeth Kersch served for 8 points, Kaylee Bennett added 6 and Lanie Lechtenberg followed with 4 points.
On Saturday, the team traveled to Verdigre to participate in the Verdigre Tournament. The “B” team did not come away with any wins but gained a lot of experience. They played Creighton first going 12-20 and 9-20. Amelia Hakl led with 4 points. Next, they played Niobrara/Verdigre “B” 7-20, 16-20. Lanie Lechtenberg, Elizabeth Kersch, and Kaylee Bennett all served 2 points in the match. They followed this match with a game against Creighton “A” 15-20, 9-20. Kaylee and Elizabeth each served 5 points. Their last match was against the Niobrara/Verdigre “A” team they lost 14-20 and 9-20. Kaylee once again led the server with 7 points. Katelyn Fletcher, Brynn Almgren, and McKenize Snyder, also played on this team.
The “A” team came away with 4 wins and 4 losses. They dropped two to Creighton “A” 18-20, 18-20. Amelia Hoffman served for 8 points and Paige Drueke had 7 points. Their second match against Niobrara/Verdigre “A” went 16-20, 16-20. Amelia had 6 points this match and Natasha Zeisler added 3 points. With Creighton “B”, Boyd County won both games 20-16, and 20-10. Amelia Hoffman and Natasha Zeisler each served 7 points and Paige Drueke added 6 points. In the final match the Lady Spartans topped the Niobrara/Verdigre “B” team 20-16, 20-17. Amelia had 9 points, followed by Natasha and Hailie Faus with 4 each and Leah Jockens added 3 points. Kyra Gonzales, Mercedes Brooks, and Teegan Henderson also helped out on this team.
Finally, on Monday Sept. 24th the team traveled to Springview to play the North Central Knights. The “B” team lost another close one 22-25 and 24-26. Elizabeth Kersch served a season high 11 points and Lanie Lechtenberg had 4, while Kaylee Bennett and Amelia Hakl each served for 3 points. The “A” team also lost 21-25,21-25. Paige Drueke and Mercedes Brooks each served for 6 points, with Amelia Hoffman adding 4 and Natasha Zeisler and Leah Jockens both adding 3 points.
Their next match will be Monday Oct. 1st when they travel to Burke.
Volleyball Tri – BC/NC/St. Mary’s
On Tuesday, September 18th, the Spartans hosted a volleyball triangular that included Boyd Coutny, North Central, and St. Mary’s. The Spartans came out on top winning both of there games for the night. It was a special night as the Spartans had a pink out to support those diagnosed or families affected by breast cancer. Below, the Spartans posed with the Boyd County MS/HS head cook Mary Finnegan who has recently been diagnosed.
JH Volleyball Tournament @ St. Mary’s
The Boyd County Junior High team placed 5th at the St.Mary’s Tournament Saturday, September 15th. They lost their first game to the O’Neill 8th grade team 21-25, 13-25. Amelia Hoffman served for 7 points in the match. The girls came back and won their next match against CWC, 25-18, 27-25. Paige Drueke served 10 points, followed by Kyra Gonzalas, Mercedes Brooks and Halie Faus who all added 4 points each. In the final match the Lady Spartans held off a strong Neligh/Oakdale team, winning in three sets, 19-25, 25-16, and 15-13. Natasha Zeisler served 9 points in this match with Amelia Hoffman and Halie Faus each adding 6 points. Leah Jockens, and Teegan Henderson also played very strong in this tournament.
BC JH Volleyball vs. Niobrara-Verdigre
The Junior High Volleyball Team opened their season Monday, September 10th against Niobrara/Verdigre. The Boyd County girls gained a little experience but were not able to come up with a win, losing 8-25, 11-25, 25-14 in the first game, and 17-25, 24-26 in the second. Elizabeth Kersch served for 12 points in the first match and Lanie Lechtenberg added 7 points. In the second match, Leah Jockens served 7 points and Amelia Hoffman added 6 points. The junior High Girls next action will be Saturday, September 15th at the St. Mary’s Invite, and then we host Stuart at Butte on Monday September 17th.
