Girls on the Run (GOTR) in Boyd County has been in full swing since February 20th. Thirty-six girls in grades 3-6 are currently halfway through the 10-week program. GOTR is a physical activity-based positive youth development program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using fun curriculum which creatively integrates running/jogging/walking. Some of the topics covered so far this season are: star power, positive self-talk, finding balance, emotions and empathy. The next series of lessons cover friends – selecting healthy relationships and keeping them healthy, followed by celebrating and sharing our strengths, in the last few weeks.
This season in order to accommodate families as well as implement curriculum successfully, our large Boyd County team was able to host in two locations. The west site in Butte hosts 20 girls and the east site in Spencer hosts 16. The coaches, high school helpers, and girls are excited to come together for our practice 5K in a few weeks. Our ultimate season ending goal is to complete the regional 5K, which will be held in O’Neill on Sunday, April 29th at 1:30 pm. Each GOTR girl will be accompanied by an adult Run Buddy to encourage and support them along the way. The event is open to public entries, so please visit www.GOTRNebraska.org to pre-register by April 5th or register on site the day of the event.
Girls on the Run is so much fun!
